This morning as i spent some time with God, i was made to reflect on how i may have stumbled some of my brothers and sisters in Christ, either by not setting an example to follow, or by unconsciously encouraging them to contribute their negative experiences with certain people (ie, speak ill of someone) when i rant about my own negative experience with that person.
Jesus said to his disciples : "Things that cause people to sin are bound to come, but woe to that person through whom they come. It would be better for him to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around his neck than for him to cause one of these little ones to sin. So watch yourselves.
- Luke 17:1-3
I think it's not so much a matter of putting up a facade and being perfect in order to set an example, but it's our responsibility to fully open up every area of our lives to let the power of God work and shine through our lives despite all our brokenness and failings.
It's that true authenticity in someone - an acknowledgement of who we are and what God can do or has done - that i often find inspiring. I reckon godly people should be both authentic AND inspiring.
We need godly people around us to encourage/inspire us while we walk the walk. When we are drowning in our failings, we can be encouraged their testimony - for if God's power can do such a great thing in that person's life, surely He can do the same in our lives too.
Don't seek to inspire - seek to get real in your relationship with God first. Out of that will overflow everything else.
